There’s plenty going on in Swindon to keep the kids entertained during the summer holidays, from family fun days to theatre performances, and from summer activity groups to the splash park at Coate Water Country Park.
For some of your days out, you might want to take a picnic and enjoy an al fresco lunch in the sun. For others, you might time your excursion so you can eat at home. But dining out with the family can be a real treat for everyone – especially when you choose a restaurant or cafe that takes care of its younger diners just as much as its grown-up ones.
So if you’re looking for a family-friendly restaurant in Swindon this summer, you might be interested in checking out one of these five options…
Looking for somewhere to eat with the children in Regent Circus? Tiffins has you covered! This Indian buffet restaurant is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner – and with its fun and funky vibe (including lit-up fountains and a tuk-tuk to keep kids entertained), it’s a relaxed and friendly place for families to enjoy a meal together. From starters like bhajis and samosas through to curries ranging from mild through to hot and sides such as rice, chips and breads, there’s something to suit all tastes. The self-service soft-serve ice cream will definitely have kid-appeal – and children in highchairs eat free!
The Sun Inn
Right next to the Coate Water Country Park, The Sun Inn has a huge garden and outdoor play area, making it a great place for kids to let off some steam! It’s a traditional-style pub that serves food seven days a week, complete with plenty of options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diners. Kids have their own menu to order from, which includes everything from Quorn vegan nuggets to ham, egg and chips. We recommend their incredible Sunday lunches!
Want a tasty, affordable option to take away and eat in the sun? Grab a meal from Soul Shack in the Brunel Shopping Centre, and head to GWR Park to enjoy it al fresco! Offering tasty Caribbean treats, prepared fresh every day, Soul Shack is known for its generous portions and flavour-packed dishes. From Jamaican patties to traditional jerk chicken or a curry mutton wrap, there’s plenty of choice – and the kids’ meals (served with fries and a drink) include a simple bun and cheese for younger diners, as well as jerk sausage rolls and curry goat buns for more adventurous young palates.
Three Trees Farm Shop & Cafe
South of Swindon in Chiseldon you’ll find the Three Trees Farm Shop & Cafe, just a few minutes from the M4. The farm shop itself is heaving with local produce, and we challenge you not to buy a few treats to take home! The light and airy cafe, with its floor to ceiling windows, is a welcoming place to enjoy a bite to eat, complete with colouring to keep the kids entertained and a separate children’s menu. While they tuck into dishes like a mini cooked breakfast or fish fingers and chips, you can dig into anything from home-roasted ham, egg and chips to their decadent Welsh rarebit.
Olive Tree Cafe
If the little ones are getting restless, head for the Manor Garden Centre. Their Olive Tree Cafe has a ton of toys to keep them occupied, as well as an enclosed outdoor seating area so they can run around and let off steam in a safe environment. Staffed by volunteers, the cafe is a place that supports those in recovery from mental illness, so you’ll know you’re supporting a great cause, too. It’s a classic garden centre menu of breakfasts, things with chips, toasties, jacket potatoes and sandwiches, plus incredible homemade cakes. Children can choose from the main menu – or a separate menu designed for smaller appetites.
