What can you say about restaurant choices of any kind in London when there are so many? The interest in healthy living has meant that there have been a surge of new restaurants, cafes and bars opening to cater for the more discerning diners who want good food with lots of flavour, but still healthy for the body.
Ardiciocca, Fulham
Italian and healthy don’t necessarily always go together in one sentence, but in this case they do. This restaurant is pure genius for those who want or need to follow a gluten free, sugar free and dairy free menu. The chefs here believe that flavour should not be compromised in any way and have created inspirational dishes that you would never believe did not contain any of the ‘no’s’ above. Ardiciocca really provides an authentic taste of Italy. Pizzas and pastas are gluten free, but do not lack in flavour or substance. Main courses are hearty, but star dishes are the desserts – try the flourless Chocolate Cake, the Lemon Tart or the chef’s own Tiramisu recipe.
Farmacy, Notting Hill
With produce from their own biodynamic farm, you could not get fresher or healthy meals than here. Based on the maximum amount of nutritional value, every dish is carefully constructed at Farmacy. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can choose from gluten free, nut free and raw dishes. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays and includes unusual salads and ‘earth bowls’, as well as healthy omelettes and pancakes. Desserts include probiotic jars and ‘Moonji Nice Cream’. Healthy from start to finish.
Near and Far, Camden
Near and Far is more of a destination than simply a restaurant. During the day, breakfast, brunch and lunch is served, but in the evenings, it becomes a party venue with DJs and throbbing music as well as dinner. Food here is varied but based on Mexican street food and sharing platters with a strong vegetarian influence, and everything is gluten free. It’s a fun place, serving healthy food. The Tamarind Crab Tostados with Avocado Cucumber Salsa and that hit of heat from the habaneros, are a real triumph.
Honi Poke, Soho and Fenchurch Street
Fresh and punchy flavours of Hawaiian food are the success of this restaurant. Using only the highest quality sustainable ingredients, the traditional poke bowls are served with panache here. There are 5 signature bowls at Honi Poke, but you can also build your own bowl mixture. Only sashimi grade fish is used and served with Japanese graded rice, pickled vegetables, enoki mushrooms and other delights, eat in or takeaway. Eating in is fun, as dishes such as the octopus are prepared fresh and flame-torched tableside! You can also order bowls with meat, or totally vegan.
Farm Girl Café
The food at all 4 branches of this chain is nothing but honest, healthy and delicious. Based on strong Antipodean principles, you can eat as the Aussies do with plenty of ‘avos’ (avocados), sourdough bread, locally farmed chicken and beef, right down to the vegan mayonnaise used in their signature Jackfruit Tacos. The Brunch menu at Farm Girl Café is full of classic dishes such as Avocado Toast, Acai Bowls, Gluten Free Buttermilk Pancakes or the House Granola. Great coffee is available too.
