La Casita Mexicana
Mexican food is always popular, and the array of dishes offered at La Casita Mexicana gives you a great choice. The fajitas here come fresh and sizzling to your table, you know they have just been cooked. Main courses are very reasonably priced but recommended are the starters. La Casita Mexicana serves a delicious Prawn Ceviche, again so fresh with a kick of lime and chilli. This restaurant does Central American food real justice.
Bocca di Lupo
If you are a pasta fan, you could probably eat at Bocca di Lupo every day and get a different tasty bowl of the Italian dream. Menus change almost daily, with new and innovative pasta dishes served up perfectly. Everything is either ‘small plate or large plate’, so sharing is also a good idea. Wonderful choice of pastas and risottos at excellent prices.
On the Bab
Korean food is always a winner, both in terms of taste and affordability. The traditional bimibap provides both of these attributes, and can be served either in a bun, with rice rolls or with noodle soup. On the Bab is busy and bustling, somewhat akin to a street food market in Korea itself, but internal décor is impressive. Good for a group of friends. Try the delicious Yangyum chicken on a big plate.
Pane Cunzato
A real taste of the Aeolian Islands off the cost of Italy is brought to you by Pane Cunzato, where they believe in the freshest of ingredients handled with love. Pane Cunzato is an Italian bread eaten all over Sicily and is a standout dish in this restaurant. Lightly toasted and filled with vibrant and fresh ingredients such as buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, onions, parsley and capers (there are tuna varieties as well), this dish makes a great lunchtime meal. There are super salads on offer too.
Pizza Union
Obviously, a pizza laden experience, but the price of a 12-inch pizza here cannot be beaten, even if laden up with toppings, you can still get away with less than £10, very easily. The bonus here at Pizza Union is you can also get sweet pizza toppings, or delicious Italian ice cream as well, and still have change. Several London locations, and a perfect place to take your children
Smokestak
Once a street food supremo, Smokestak now has a static restaurant in Shoreditch, but serving up the same wonderful magic as before. This is a meat lover’s delight with unctuous aromas and melting morsels of beef, pork and other meats. Fish fans and vegetarians still have options, but the standout dish at such an economical price is the bone marrow flatbread with parsley and shallots.
Brasserie Zedel
A little bit of Paris, slap bang in Piccadilly. Brasserie Zedel transports you to a classic French bistro, where the highly acclaimed food and surroundings do not fail to please. In fact, it receives high accolades from other top London chefs, and the prices are excellent. The interior is true French art deco, plus there is a bar and a cabaret in the evenings. Two-course and 3-course set menus are available, as well as a la carte. The ‘plat du jour’ changes daily and is economical and delicious – and very, very French.
