Bournemouth is fast becoming a nirvana for vegan food, with new restaurants opening all the time in this beachside paradise. Here are some of the best to sample.

The Mad Cucumber
Run by a delightful Polish couple, their enthusiasm for vegan food shines through. The Mad Cucumber restaurant is rustic in design, and their food is wholesome, whether light bites or something more substantial.
Curries, chillies, enchiladas and pasta dishes are on the side of wholesome, but their burgers and patties do not disappoint. Daily specials include a wonderful nut roast, macaroni cheese and a sweet potato moussaka, but these change according to seasonality.
Open for breakfast as well as lunch, you can have a hearty start to the day with their early morning Sautéed spinach and mushrooms, tofu rashers, vegan sausage, garnish, beans and sourdough toast, enough to keep you going until the evening. Casual, yet refined, this restaurant is an excellent choice for all things vegan.
Ojo Rojo
Ojo Rojo is an authentic Mexican restaurant, which started life in Mexico itself as a street food outlet.
Combining true Mexican flavours with other tastes from around the world, they have a unique combination of mouth-watering food and clever spicing. Tacos are a speciality here for both lunch and dinner.
Don’t expect starters or mains, the food is served ‘Latino-style’. In other words, Ojo Rojo bring plate after plate to your table. They also have the widest range of Mezcal and Tequila on the South Coast.
Cosy Club
Located in what was once a department store, the ambiance of the Cosy Club is akin to the Great Gatsby inside, and is plush and welcoming. What is even more special is that the Cosy Club is set over 3 floors, with a superb bar and rooftop terrace to admire the Bournemouth vista.
Open for breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner. Enjoy tapas and other sharing platters and if you have a sweet tooth, the Mini Cinnamon Doughnuts and Chocolate Brownie are a great way to finish off your meal.
Café Boscanova
A lovely little café-style eatery that is a ‘must go to’ for vegan dishes. Highly recommended are the flavoursome soups they make and the Buckwheat Blueberry Pancakes.
The interior of Café Boscanova is certainly a talking point, with lighting made from coffee cups, and a mix of furniture. All produce is ethically sourced, and Café Boscanova are particularly proud of their coffee.
Daily specials are always on offer to tempt your taste buds, it’s the kind of place you could go to every day and get something different but always full of flavour.
Twelve Eatery
The motto of Twelve Eatery is ‘Organic for the Planet’, and you can certainly see why from their menu. Their organic freshly pressed juice bar is a prime example of plant-based superfoods, which you simply have to try.
It’s hard to resist the beer-battered ‘Tofu fish and chips’, but the Feijoada (Black Bean Stew, Smoked Seitan Sausage, Pulled Jackfruit, Mushroom, Rice, Crispy Kale, Orange, Farofa, Salsa) is even more difficult to resist. Full of deep flavours, it will certainly fill you up.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Twelve Eatery is making a serious name for itself.
