We love dining out but, sometimes, a restaurant experience can be mined by annoying factors that can make it unforgettable, in a bad way.
Thinking about all the times we faced something that ruined our dining experience, we wanted to make a list that you surely can relate to.
The 10 restaurant pet-peeves we all can’t stand are here, hoping we won’t never face them again.
1. Rowdy Customers
The first prize goes to the screaming customers who can’t realise they are in a restaurant and not in a stadium. From running children to laud chatters, from executives barking at their phone to the drunk table celebrating office’s freedom on a Friday night. We have all been there, but, have you ever been on the annoying side? It’s time to admit it!
2. Dirty Cutlery
There’s nothing more disappointing than finding dirty cutlery on your table. No-one asks for shining and sparkling silverware (although it wouldn’t hurt) but, bent tines, fingerprints and crusted food are unacceptable. Would you tell the waiter or just make the cutlery fall from the table to get new ones?
3. Worst table in the house
The aromatic table close to the restroom or the one at the entrance, in the middle of winter, are just two examples of the worst tables you could get. What about the one right in front of the jangling silverware? Or the one next to the delivery machine that keeps ringing like a broken intercom? You name it.
4. Overly casual staff
The dining world is definitely more casual these days and this contributes to less stress for the staff in terms of outfits and appearance. We would probably be fine with your tattoos and piercings but, wearing a dirty shirt, flip flops or looking evidently hungover is not exactly what we expect. Do you really want us to take off the service charge?
5. Sub-zero Temperature
There are only a few occasions where sub-zero temperatures are allowed in a restaurant: dining experience watching the northern lights in Iceland or ice bars in the Scandinavian region. Getting a nasty cold is not what we meant when we said: let’s dine out tonight. So, turn on the heating system, unless you want to serve frozen humans as a special dish of the day.
6. Unwanted extra-ingredients
This point can include the classic eye-lush, hair or unexpected bug you wouldn’t eat with your meal; but also extra ingredients put there on purpose to make up for a missing side you weren’t aware of until they served you. In both cases, it’s allowed to leave the place with no further notice. They can easily work it out…
7. Wobbly tables
If you wanted to dance, you wouldn’t have chosen a restaurant. But the wobbly table you have been given isn’t of the same opinion. Mini earthquakes and spilled drinks should be fine in a club, given the high music volume and the atmosphere, not in a restaurant.
8. Forgotten orders
Ok, it can happen that your order is late, due to a kitchen unforeseen or a miscommunication between the waiters and the machines but… what if that starter never arrives to your table? We surely expect something in return: free cake would anyone?
9. Nasty Restroom
Toilets that don’t flush, stalls without toilet paper and empty soap dispenser? If you add to this list the fact you needed to wait 45 minutes to get in the only bathroom available and you couldn’t even use it properly, well, all you need to do is just hope that the people preparing your food are not using the same facilities.
10. Where is the check?
The food is already digested and you are at your third waving to the waiters. Where is the bill? You asked it in three different languages, do they want you to go and do the maths yourself? This is the last annoying thing that you could face when dining out. The solution? They clearly didn’t want you to pay so…
After listing the 10 pet-peeves we all can’t stand in a restaurant, we can only wish you good luck when dining out.
